Nothing says "Scotland" quite like Tartan! Now, a relatively new wee company in Glasgow is helping us to see tartan in a new light - as jewellery! Trish Tracy has been designing and selling her tartan jewellery for a few years now. Initially selling at markets and trade shows, she and her husband Harry launched Truly Truly Tartan as a new brand just last year.
Currently in almost 40 outlets across Scotland, and with a new stockist in Italy, the couple have their eye on global expansion, with the USA, Canada, and Australia as targeted markets. As a broadloom fabric, one wouldn't think tartan could be used for something a tiny and delicate as jewellery, and they'd be right. But that is the secret to the success of Truly Truly Tartan - Trish has devised a way to miniaturize the colorful criss-cross fabrics so that here jewellery displays not just a splash of color, but the patterns themselves. After all, it's the pattern that makes tartan, well, tartan!
The current product line includes earrings, bracelets, necklaces, and for the gentlemen, cufflinks and tie pins. There's even a non-jewellery accessory for your wee doggie, a tartan collar (but none in cat sizes, yet!). Trish's jewellery is custom designed and hand-crafted in silver plate and sterling silver with new designs and possibly options for gold and titanium on the drawing boards. Truly truly Tartan is a fine example of the many, many entrepreneurial family-owned and operated businesses that seem to flourish in Scotland!

Tartan is a cultural icon of Scotland. Traditionally it is a patterned woven cloth, typically wool, that consists of criss-crossed bands of color both vertically and horizontally creating a distinctive pattern of squares and lines. Today tartan is no longer limited to textiles – the term has come to mean the pattern itself as much as a cloth and one Glasgow artistan is proving this by creating dazzling tartan inspired designs using fused glass.
