Celtic Music is a broad term used to loosely describe the music from the lands of the Celts primarily Scotland, Ireland and Wales but also including Brittany (in France) and Galicia (in Spain).
At its heart Celtic music is a folk music with often distinctive styles, tunings and lyrics. It has been traced back to the 1600 and remains a popular musical genre today performed by artists such as Enya, The Chieftans, and The Corrs and spawning offshoots like the celtic rock of bands like The Elders and Shooglenifty and the even more niche bagrock of the Red Hot Chilli Pipers. With the celtic diaspora spreading around and into almost every corner of the world, it’s no surprise that Celtic Music has influenced countless other genres and nowhere more so than here in North America
Celtic music also heavily influenced American bluegrass and country music with the adoption of the fiddle, a mainstay in any ceilidh band. Likewise the adoption of the banjo (originally arriving in America with African slaves) by immigrants in America, especially the Irish, helped that instrument migrate across the Atlantic in the opposite direction. Both are examples of how Marum sees the exchange of cultures worldwide through music.
With his feet "firmly planted in both worlds" (Folk and Celtic music) Marum is well versed in the influence of Celtic music across America. His music is featured regularly on Folk/American and Celtic radio stations around the world and is available on all major Mp3 streaming services. a resident of Texas, he developed a love of music, especially traditional Irish and Scots music, initially through his parents. Today Marum travels widely performing more than 150 shows annually. His music brings to his audiences a blend of American, Scottish and Irish cultures in songs that are both traditional and contemporary.
